Jack Anderson: Alumni Spotlight

The Dance Marathon at FSU Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact on our organization and the cause we all care so much about. These individuals go above and beyond in supporting our mission and continue to carry it with them long after their time as students. This year, we’re excited to spotlight Jack Anderson, whose passion for Dance Marathon, commitment to his team, and dedication to the cause made his time with DM at FSU so meaningful.
Jack’s Dance Marathon journey actually started in high school! He is grateful that his high school got involved because it gave him a head start and introduced him to a cause that would become such a big part of his life. As a coordinator at DM at FSU, Jack also had the opportunity to work with high school Dance Marathons and support students as they got involved themselves. Seeing the next generation step up was especially fulfilling because it reminded him of his own experience and gave him the chance to help others create those same memories.

If you ask Jack about his favorite part of DM at FSU, serving as a Morale Coordinator during Years 30 and 31 is at the top of his list. Morale became a family to him during his sophomore year, and he knew he wanted to take on a bigger role after seeing how much the team meant to him. As Jack shared, “Morale became a family to me my sophomore year, and I knew right away that I wanted to take on a larger role.” Working alongside Madi, Katie, and his fellow core members made the experience even more special. From weekly meetings filled with Silent Disco, Web of Whys, Baby, and potlucks to weekends spent supporting high school community Marathons, Jack made memories he will always look back on fondly. More than anything, his time in Morale showed him just how special the people you meet through Dance Marathon can become.
Even after graduation, Jack continues to carry the impact of DM at FSU with him. He describes Dance Marathon as a defining part of his undergraduate experience, giving him a sense of purpose and friendships that will last long after college. As he works on his master’s degree and begins interviewing for future opportunities, he feels confident in the communication and leadership skills he gained through the organization. Whether he is working with different personalities or leading by example, Jack knows that his experiences with Dance Marathon have helped prepare him for what comes next.

Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is an honor Jack is incredibly grateful for. When looking back on his time with DM at FSU, he remembers the long hours, countless commitments, and always giving 110% in hopes of lifting others up and making them smile. He also remembersthe people who made it all worthwhile, especially the coordinators, chairs, and Executive Board members who believed in him along the way. For Jack, this recognition means so much because of the community behind it and the memories he made as part of the largest student-run organization on campus.
For current members of Internal, Jack has one big piece of advice: show up to everything! In his words, “You get out as much as you put into this organization.” He encourages everyone to take advantage of the opportunities and memories right in front of them, from Tuesday night Morale meetings and all-team meetings to the little moments of running into friends around campus. He also reminds everyone not to get discouraged by fundraising. It can feel like a lot sometimes, but it is all worth it in the end. Jack’s journey is a reminder to enjoy every moment, invest in the people around you, and make the most of your time with DM at FSU because the friendships, lessons, and memories will stay with you long after graduation.
